Almost two million undocumented immigrants have been deported from the US since Barack Obama entered the White House, more than under any previous president.

Many of those sent back to Mexico have to walk through a door in the fence separating California and the Mexican town of Tijuana. Some were caught trying to enter the US illegally, others had lived in the US - without papers - for years.

The BBC's Valeria Perasso reports from both sides of the border on what happens to deportees once they pass through this door.

What about the broken lives of people in the US that are victims of illegal felons?

I don't care about their sob stories.......they created their situations for illegally entering a foreign country they have no legal authorization to be in.....go back, apply the right way, and maybe you can come back legally like other people from other countries in the world.....Mexicans are no exception!!!  They deliberately had children born in the USA, at Americans expense, with the express purpose of thinking that would give them some "entitlement" to be legally in the USA.....wrong!  Neither they, or the children born in an American hospital, have no legal right to be in the USA, and they are all deemed "Undocument ILLEGAL ALIENS".....they are not "Immigrant" like the media uses to describe them.....go home!!!

I'm the son of a imigrant from Mexico. my father came here legally. the sad fact is that America cannot keep taking other countries poor in. I'm going to Merrick and 1st I love this country I would die for it. I love my heritage but I love this country more. we need a wall. because it's not just hard working people and they come over here. just watch one episode of Border Wars and assure you all we need to know why we need a wall

Sorry. I'm a liberal-minded person, but illegal immigration places an unjust burden on a country and its citizens. I don't think there's anything inherently xenophobic or wrong about building a border wall or deporting illegal immigrants. Its illegal for a reason. And deportation is just enforcing the law.

Its called illegal for a reason. No need to show any leniency towards illegal immigrants while many people who have applied legally are waiting

If you don't want to be deported. Don't enter a country illegally. Break the law and you risk arrest. Period. All pleas to emotion are disingenuous. They only seek to over ride your ability to look at things in a logical way. It's brainwash.

America welcomes immigrants, when they obey the law,but most immigrants from say mexico try to sneak into the country and that's illegal. Most all other countries on earth put illegal immigrants in Jail.Illegal immigrants are not USA citizens and are not protected by the United States Constitution.
