After years of offering sub-par tools , Craftsman comes back to USA.

When it comes to the tool industry, Sears' craftsman brand was once a force to be reckoned with, from offering a wide variety of quality shop tools that would last forever, to their affordable yet functional USA made hand tools. Yes, Craftsman used to dance around conversations with the mechanically inclined and the DIY crowds alike as if they were going out of style but that day did come. It came in the form of corporate big shots wanting to further expand their profit margin, and once the lure of USA made disappeared from the iconic brand people were quick to realise the difference in quality. Which is exactly why the last couple decades of Craftsman's history is embodied by the feeling of distrust from consumers. So after years of customers flocking to competitors for lower prices, Stanley Black and Decker stepped in and bought the brand at the low low cost of a Billion dollars and today were finally getting a slight glimmer of what might be in store for the future of the new Craftsman holds. Finally the day has come that Craftsman Comes back to USA!

Now the sears that was 35 miles from me closed and just to replace a tool I have to go 64 miles .My local ace is a small store and only 1 row has tools mostly craftsman

Exciting times! The most exciting part is another Garnett tools video... f609 I do love craftsman tools as they were the first quality tools I could afford to buy myself.

Very good job describing & explaining the recent going ons with Craftman, thank you Sir! And yes I'm excited about a very likely comeback with Craftsman & much of the product to be made & manufactured here in the states--what we all need & THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!

Black Friday at Lowes. All new SBD Craftsman hand tools made in China. Most power tools made in China. The only manufactured in USA stuff are the Waterloo tool chests and Stanley tape measures. The small selection of labeled made in USA drills are likely manufactured in China and snapped together in US. I suspect SBD is engaged in pretense.

BTW, Craftsman tools about the 1990's were questionable, After 2000, they were total and utter JUNK compared to serious quality brands like Apex (Before they changed ownership), Bonney-Utica before change of ownership), 'Kelsey-Hayes_Loc-Rite_Bonney originated the box wrench-socket design of applying force away from the corner of the bowl head. Snap-On later exploited this a "Flank-Drive" and popularize it.' This box wrench-socket design is very common as the idea is essentially public domain., Wright Tool, Cornwell, Stahlwille, Geodore, Hazet, USAG, Beta, Facom, TopTul, Koken and many other brands not made in the US of A.

Another exploitation of market brand identity. Craftsman tools brand name has been purchased by Stanley/Black & Decker which also owns a host of other tool brands including Proto, Facom, MAC. This is much about branding far more than actual tool quality and "Made In US of A. Craftsman tools will likely be designed in the US of A or modification of a tool design from another one of Stanely/Black & Decker's other tool brands with slight cosmetic alterations. Craftsman tools will likely be made in Taiwan or similar in highly automated factories with little to no manual labor involved. The days of individual hand crafted tools like wrenches are essentially gone today due to labor cost, market demands for quality and more which is not viable or possible with 100% skilled hand labor.

I suspect that Stanley-Black & Decker is just burning out the old stock before bringing out the new USA made stuff. Stanley Tool Works used to make craftsman branded hand tools for sears until the early 1990's. so it is no surprise that they purchased the craftsman brand from Sears. Both my grandfathers and my dad and my uncles always used craftsman tools. unfortunately, by the time i was old enough and able to afford to buy my first set of craftsman tools, they had outsourced to china. they were the worst tools i have ever owned. after Stanley lost the tool contract for craftsman, they started making Husky tools for Home Depot. for a while they would even exchange broken craftsman tools for an Husky. after breaking about a half dozen 5/8 sockets while rebuilding an engine, I went and got a husky and it word great. later that year my girlfriend (who would later become my wife) bought me the 338 piece Husky tool set as a birthday present. I still have that set to this day. I have never broken a single piece. a few years ago i happened to inherit some old craftsman tools that were made in the USA, they are identical to my husky tools with the exception of the name and part number stamped in on them.  unfortunately Home Depot bought the Husky name from Stanley in the late 2000's and switch manufactures. now the Husky line in just as bad as the craftsman line was. so i am really excited about Stanley making craftsman tools again. I suspect that they will bring manufacturing of all of their tools back to the US, but it will take time as these thing don't happen over night.

I cant wait. I may actually buy craftsman again. Craftsman now is no better than harbor freight. Hell harbor freight has some nicer stuff than sears does. Good riddance to sears.

Craftsman needs to just do American and Taiwanese tools. kick China to the curb or just relegate them to that evo line. Thanks to their fumbling, a lot of us moved to harbor freight in disgust and discovered high quality low priced tools and we aren't going back even if Craftsman gets their stuff together.

I am British with a lot of Craftsman tools, I would always visit Sears when in the States.
